I was recently given the opportunity to read this new book and post about it on my blog. It is called The Stolen Jewel by Lisa Dawn. Here is a screen shot of it on Amazon (I will post the link at the end of this post):
This story follows a young woman, who was trained to become queen all her life, making an impulse decision to use forbidden magic for the good of her kingdom and weed out some people that might be the cause of her kingdom’s downfall. Not all goes according to plan (obviously, or there would be no story ;P), and she becomes an outcast. Charlotte has a hard time finding her sole purpose and individual worth beyond what she had always been told to be. Now that her responsibility of “future queen” has been, for lack of a better word, ripped away from her, she must find some other ways to help her kingdom in its dire need.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a really quick read, and it was very fun. I appreciated the author’s attention to detail and the development of her protagonist, Charlotte. Charlotte was very relatable and was strong and intelligent, all good traits for a future queen. I do, however, think the plot was very quick, especially following Charlotte and her romantic interest. The speed of things happening in their relationship oftentimes didn’t make a ton of sense, but it was sweet all the same.
This is a good book for middle grade readers and teens. It’s a fun read that one can finish in one sitting, and the world and magic is very interesting.
Anyway, I LOVE reading and always look forward to having some new books to read! If only motherhood granted more time for more reading! Hahaha.
Thanks, as always,
